300 (2006)

I decided to start my #ThrowbackThursday tradition off with 300 simply because, it’s my favorite movie!

300 follows the story of the Greek Spartans who chose to fight rather than be enslaved by the Persian empire. Led by King Leonidas (Gerard Butler), the Spartans march north 300 strong to the “Hot Gates” where they have come to find one of two things: a glorious victory or a beautiful death! With great action and an evenly matched story line, 300 reigned supreme during its time! Everyone wanted to be a Spartan (even though they lost the battle).

One of the biggest downfalls of this movie is the broad overuse of slow motion. Zack Snyder truly wore us out since almost the entire movie was in slow motion. It took away from the action a little more than it should but did not take away the essence of how the story of few stood against many until their dying breath for their freedom. The movie in all made me feel that it was okay to fight back against your oppressor instead of becoming the oppressed.

Rating: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
